Torriana
The road that climbs from the valley up towards Torriana
starts with a steep incline. On the left is Valmarecchia and on the
right the valley traced by the River Uso. Montebello, Verucchio and
the three towers of San Marino make the crown. In 12th century its castle
extended over two hills on the top of which were two little forts with
solid towers which constituted an intrepid defence system that dominated
the two valleys. Its history is in fact strongly influenced by its geological
nature, ideal for people to take refuge and perfect for troops as a
place from which to control the valley.
This little pre-Apennine village on three humped hills was called ‘La
Scorticata’, from Castrum Scortigatae, until 1930 and is mentioned
in documents from 1144. ERF will bring its music to the very front of
the Chiesa dell’Antico Borgo di Scorticata from where extraordinary
views can be enjoyed.
