Saludecio
Whoever climbs the first part of Valconca, after leaving
the sea a few kilometres behind, can clearly see on a hillock the characteristic
profile of Saludecio with its bell towers, towers and wall. Arriving
at the top of the hill one enters the village by an ancient gate that
looks towards the sea. Immediately one can feel the harmony of the piazza,
the noble streets and alleyways. One is impressed not only by the elegant
lines of its palazzi and churches and but also by how the village as
a whole has been able to respect its own past and integrate perfectly
with its environment. The historic centre preserves even today the typical
spindle shape of settlements constructed on ridges. One enters the village
through Porta Marina which is placed in the donjon of the city wall.
On the opposite side rises Porta Montanara (14th century), well restored,
that indicates the confines of the medieval hamlet. The complex of 15th
and 16th century city wall has architectural characteristics that are
attributed to various epochs.
The Chiostro
dell’Antico Convento dei Frati Gerolamini,
in which the ERF concert will be held, is situated in the upper part
of the hamlet. It was founded in 1640 and contains preserved 7th century
paintings and an interesting fresco in which all the Reagents who have
guided the convent are represented.
