A fine city of artistic interest which was famous in the Renaissance period for the production of pottery, to the extent that its name became synonymous with ‘pottery’ in many languages. Ceramics are everywhere here: among the fine squares, the porticos, the houses and the Cathedral, where the Tuscan influence is strong, there are many craft workshops.
Concerts will be held in the International Museum of Ceramics, a unique collection in the world. Ceramic developments over the five continents through the centuries are recorded in its rooms. There is also a fine section devoted to modern art with splendid works by Picasso, Matisse and Chagall, and to contemporary art where young artists constantly provide works and which makes the museum a living centre of art and culture.
