Bertinoro
A typical example of a medieval citadel, its mono-centric
structure, with its urban centre originally grouped around the Rocca,
became bi-centric when a magnificent palazzo in Byzantine and Roman
style was built in 1306 as the seat of the Municipality. Again a lot
of the ancient city walls and numerous turrets and gates are preserved.
The concert will be held at the very famous Fattoria Paradiso, once
Castello Ugarte Lovatelli, situated on a sunny hillock next to medieval
Bertinoro. Very ancient documents lead us to presume the origins of
the interior are from 15th century, even though one cannot exclude that
its primary origins could date from Roman times. The villa and surrounding
land, owned by Contessa Gabriella Lovatelli Ugarte in the 16th century,
who was the last of the noble family of the same name, were acquired
by Mario Pezzi’s parents at the end of the 19th century.
The ancient home, like other historic events, is tied to the birth of
Marco Palmezzano, a disciple of Melozzo da Forlì. This is confirmed
not only by the fact that the Villa is situated in Via Palmeggiana at
number 285, but also by the fact that the initials of the master, “M.P.,”
are sculptured in stone on the front of the monumental chimney that
towers over the room in the apartment the ‘Fattoria’ reserves
for it illustrious visitors.
